Our final song choice

As a group we have decided to go with the song Kim suggested as it would fit best with what we want to do with our music video.

Song Choice

I chose this song because of the strong beat that underlies the song as well as the powerful lyrics. This would make it easy to have some clear cut editing. The genre of the music I have chosen is indie because I feel as though that way we could use longer shots  and have a much more creative aspect. The lyrics allow the the audience to have to unpick the meaning making it more interesting.

Song Choice

I believe my song would work for our music video as it works well in terms of being able to create a very interesting music video. For example, it very much suggests the idea of a narrative and could possibly lead to the creation of a concept, which would bring more interest to the video. The genre of the music I have chosen to suggest comes from more of an indie genre. This genre of music usually leads to the creation of a narrative or concept based video due to the lyrical aspects to the music. The lyrical aspects of the music give the creator of the music something to unpick in order to create an unexpected music that is still linked to the lyrics (following Goodwin's rules).

Lip-syncing practice

Through the creation of this video we were trying to practice Lip-syncing and further our ability to create an exact copy of a music video. Throughout doing this Lip-sync practice we learn the difficulty of reproducing exact locations with excellent M-E-S and the importance of costume and how it influences the look of a shot. Furthermore, we also learnt the difficulty of creating an exact copy of a music video that follows the exact same timings whilst still keeping the lip-syncing accurate. To improve this video the video could be re-editied in order to make sure that the lip syncing is exact. I will use what I have learnt in this music video to make sure my lip-syncing is exact and makes the video have a professional finish.

Lip-syncing practise

www - I felt as though the angles worked well with my actor and it accentuated the lip syncing skills that i used throughout this video

ebi - At some points the lip syncing was very out of time, which meant that the whole video was nt the best it could have been.

Analysis of costumes

Image result for indie clothes pinterestImage result for indie male clothes pinterest

I searched pinterest to find costumes that woul best fit the codes and conventions of our music video. These costumes would have represented our actors as laid back and cool.

However in our music video our actors worehoodies and jackets to protect hemselves from the cold weather. this was less successful as it didnt represent the actors as cool people. this subverted the audiences expectaions as the costumes werent creative enough to attract their attention.
These changes although un-successful, will be corrected when we re-film our music video.

Costume, Hair and Makeup Planning

Using Pinterest I created board of outfits and hair ideas that will influence the clothing we use in our video to make sure we have excellent M-E-S.

Deconstruction of Lyrics

This Wordle shows which words are really important to the lyrics and meaning of the song, focusing on the pronouns shows how far apart the two people are as there are no inclusive pronouns. We will focus on this aspect in our music video.
I can’t be with you
Cos I need something new
You don’t know where to go
You cant fight on your own [nah nah nah]

But I can see this comin down
The high is tearing us apart
I cant save us now
And I am losing our fight

Why cant you see
The words are all you need
The time we spent
The words we bled
Was it all in vain

I cant be with you
Cos I need something new
You don’t know where to go
You cant fight on your own x3

Why cant you see
The words are all you need
The time we spent
The words we bled
Was it all in vain
X2

I don’t know where to go

I cant fight on my own [nah nah nah]

Research into Vlogs with Audience Analysis

A number of internet vloggers will show their reaction to new current music through videos. These videos allow for artists to see how their target audience are reacting to their music and this is a way in which for audience members to share their own opinions with each other. For example, this vlog shows a mans reaction to a song by Meghan Trainor. An artist who has previously caused an uprising with her controversial videos and song lyrics.

Throughout this video the man comments on the video and what Megan is wearing, which suggests this is what is important to him. This allows for management of the artist to see these reactions and continue to do what interests the audience and to discontinue what does not. This will make the audience further like the concepts the artist is presenting and thus making them more popular. This form of reacting to videos is also a free form of marketing for the artist and allows for their video to be shared between groups. Especially as this man has quite a larger following. However, these vlogs can also be negative as people can comment negatively on artists and ruin reputations of artists and possibly ruin the reputations of artists.

For our own video we could film live reactions to our video and upload them to YouTube to promote our music video and to make sure our video is targeting our audience correctly.

Feedback Vlog pitch

This feedback helps us to understand whether we are correctly following the codes and conventions of our genre through our suggested ideas. It also allows us to understand what the audience expects from us. We will us this feedback to make our music video not only more creative, but also make sure our video follows our preferred reading and correctly presents our concept of sight vs blind.

Uses and Gratification - Blumler and Katz

Uses and Gratifications - why do people consume media?

If our audience were going to consume our product for entertainment then we would add some type of intertextuality, for example a meme, this was used effectively in the music video Swish Swish by Katy Perry.

If our audience were going to consume our product for escapism then we would make it focus on sight and then at the end breaking free, so maybe smashing a clock or breaking chains.

If our audience were going to consume our product for information seeking then we would make intertexual references to real world events so they could learn about historical events and gain information whilst they watch.

If our audience were going to consume our product for personal identity then we would show through image the main focuses on the idea of identity of the artist and how the song links to how people really feel. This will create an emotive element.

Existing record label company research

Columbia

  • Columbia is an American record label owned by Sony Music entertainment. It was founded in 1887 (establish for 130 years)
  • Musicians that have worked with this record label are: Adele, Beyonce, John Mayer, Pink Floyd, etc. From the artists mentioned it can be seen that this record label holds a large number of musicians from different genres.
  • Columbia is the oldest surviving brand name in the recorded sound business, being the second major company to product recorded records, hence why it has such a variety of big name stars under its label.

Warner Bros. Records

  • Warner brothers is most well known for it successful production of films, such as, inception and Fantastic beasts. However, Warner brothers holds it own record label.
  • The record label was established in 1958 and it was the foundation label of the present-day Warner Music Group.
  • Again like columbia multiple different musicians from different genres of music have worked with the label. However, it has worked with infamous rock/metal bands, such as, The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Metallica and Avenged Sevenfold. As this label has worked with more alternative bands i would suggest that this label has a even broader range of artists styles and genres than columbia does.

For My Own Artist

  • The tone of my artists voice and style of music would suggest they would be best suited to a record label that has a number of not only indie artists, but popular artists also. This is due to the fact that the artist i'm using could use a big name record label to push forward there indie style of music. Therefore, from researching record labels I believe that my artist would achieve best if they were to work with columbia records as they work with people like John Mayer who doesn't necessarily with mainstream music, but he has become successful with his own style of music.

EBI: I had managed to include theories that work well with the directors.

Creative representations using concepts

We chose the clock to show the passing of time and how it was a constant burden that affected peoples lives (this was our concept for these pictures). We are constrained as a society to always feel the need to stick by the guidelines and deadlines of time, whereas these are not necessarily needed for society to function together.

We used the mirror to portray how time is only a figment of our imagination and how all we need to do is break through to see things for real. The chair portrays the waiting that we endure in our lifetimes and how instead we could be doing something worth while. The M-E-S in these images could be improved with planning we could have removed the chair and made the shots even more visually interesting with use of creative props. Furthermore, this would allow more focus to be placed on the key prop (the clock).
